Review OBI Forum Live 2nd edition

Yesterday I was presenting at the OBI Forum Live 2nd Edition. Although the number of attendees was less than expected, it was from my point of view again very successful! It is really great to share information and knowledge between OBIEE experts.
I’ve already seen some of the presentations at the BI Brighton seminar. The presentation from Mark Rittman was new for me. I was very pleased to see Mark present about using relational models and Essbase Cubes and combine them on the BI Server logical level. Yes, The sun is coming through the clouds! I bet next year Mark will present only how to use relations models. (just a little tease 😉 )

I wasn’t able to see Gerard Braat his presentation and visa versa. But we managed to share our presentations while John was presenting. It was almost scary, both our presentations contained a method how to model information correctly. Only Gerard was using the BI Server and I was using the principles of Enterprise Architecture. We just had to less time to continue our conversation. But I promise you will hear more from Gerard and me about information modeling.

My conclusion of the day. Everybody was discussing how you should model information. So information modeling is hot! You know my statement: information modeling should be done within the database!

I also was very please how obiee.nl was plugged by Mark Rittman and Rene Kuipers. We launched the portal website for OBIEE experts in and around the Netherlands. Please check out the website.

I would like to finish with:
BI is not about gathering information and hope to find decisions to make.
BI is about gathering decisions and hope to find information to create!
